THE world's first ever radio news broadcast was made by the volunteers who took part in the 1916 Easter Rising, a leading professor has claimed.

As rebel leader Padraig Pearse proclaimed an Irish Republic from the steps of the GPO on O'Connell Street, other heroic volunteers were trying to tell the world the news from the roof of a nearby building.
