Summary
INEVITABLE the Tories would accuse Cherie Blair of cashing in on her husband's job by giving lectures and writing a book about life in Number 10. Even though the Prime Minister decided to declare his wife's earnings, unlike John Major who didn't declare the money Norma made from her book on Chequers.
Much more intriguing is Conservative silence over the vast amounts of money being coined by their former leader William Hague, who is cashing in big time on being one of the most disastrous Tory leaders of recent times. Hague earned pounds 935,000 in the past year from a cocktail of jobs, writing, after-dinner speeches, lectures and directorships. He was so busy coining it in he felt unable to take a front bench job under Michael Howard. Hardly the high-minded devotion to public service Conservative MPs are demanding of the Prime Minister's wife.See the full content of this document
