Summary

READER Peter Leneghan bought a 2001 Renault Scenic with 16,000 miles from an independent dealer in August 2004. In February this year he took it to a local garage for a service. Staff there told him that the brake pads and discs were shot, there were problems with the steering rack and he needed two new tyres. All in all, Peter was facing a bill of nearly pounds 500. Given that he only bought the Scenic six months ago, he was very surprised and angry. He immediately contacted the selling dealer who said it was not his problem as the three-month warranty had run out. What should Peter do?
