IF you want a posh plate that spells your name, reckon on three to four grand. At the DVLA's last sale, 66 PAT made pounds 3,500, 66 RAY pounds 4,000 and 66 ROY pounds 3,000. But the market for plates that you have to fiddle with seems stronger than ever. Would you pay pounds 5,800 for MYJ 4G (MY JAG)? Or pounds 7,400 for MOG 61E (MOGGIE)? And what about (are you sitting down?) B40 BOY (BAD BOY) for an utterly wicked pounds 11,100? Priciest number at the sale was 786 V at an astonishing pounds 25,000, while bargain of the day had to be 111 KXB, a snip at pounds 400.

Tower Hamlets is "actively removing many humps and introducing 20mph speed limits instead". Other measures include chicanes, mini- roundabouts and even inflatable humps. Other councils in England and Wales are expected to follow London's lead.See the full content of this document
