pounds A QUARTER of parents want their children to put the proceeds of their Child Trust Fund toward further education when they reach 18, according to Yorkshire Building Society. Only 8 per cent said they would be happy for their children to spend the money on whatever they like.

The account can be opened with a minimum of pounds 1 and the maximum amount you can contribute monthly is pounds 250. Savers will earn a fixed rate of five per cent in the first year, provided they pay into the account every month and make not more than one withdrawal.
