By LESLEY YARRANTON A PILOT was forced to make an emergency landing after the roof of a passenger jet was mysteriously ripped open, leaving a 6ft hole.

Passengers heard a sound "like gunshot" shortly after taking off from Phoenix, Arizona in the US - and when they looked up they could see the sky through the roof of the cabin. The pilot made a controlled four-minute descent and landed safely at a nearby military airbase.
