ENDLESS queues, cheesy chips and a giant black cloud hanging over the main stage. This could have been Glastonbury - not that Jack White was bothered.
He was too lost in his stylophone. When you're a band of two, where else do you turn to make your sixth album sound fresh? It's so fresh that if you closed your eyes, new single Icky Thump sounded a bit like Spinal Tap. Jack's giant toy box of instruments, included the devilish grind of the Hammond organ on cracking new song I'm Slowly Turning Into You. With a red stage, black sky and a thrilling dose of the blues, The White Stripes served up a set of colour and tension. Yet it seemed short. And left everyone wanting more.
