HELEN Mirren is a British institution. She's a fine actress and a bombshell at 64.

But this doesn't qualify her to shoot her mouth off about international politics. Why is it that actors and actresses feel the urge to stick their oar in, when they should be sticking to the day job? Why do they put their egomaniacal desire to be "taken seriously" over common sense? Of course everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but when Dame Helen goes on prime-time US TV and says BP stands for "Bloody Piss-poor" then says she's glad Britain didn't beat A m e r i c a i n t h e football, what use is that? It's only going to inflame the British backlash already raging in America.
