How to Survive the Party Season ; Your Sex Doctor: Issue of the Week

Summary

DECEMBER is a time for parties and Christmas joy. So here's a quick guide on how to enjoy the festive season without becoming a Christmas casualty... Make plans MOST importantly, plan how you're going to get home. Cabs can be hard to come by and may stretch your finances, but never accept lifts from unlicensed cabs. If you arrange a lift home don't be tempted to miss your arranged rendezvous.

If you get lucky at the end of the evening get your new friend's phone number and arrange to continue the party spirit another night. Friends MAKE a pact to watch out for each other. Discuss what you're going to do if somebody gets lucky and wants to go off alone and make sure nobody gets so drunk they don't know what they're doing. Use mobiles to communicate but make sure you stay in range. Contraception CHRISTMAS is one of the busiest times of year in sexual health clinics. Too much Christmas cheer can lead to unprotected sex and all that goes with it. Use contraception. If you forget, ask about emergency contraception to prevent unwanted gifts. You can take the morning-after pill up to 72 hours after having unprotected sex. Or have an emergency IUD fitted up to five days after making a mistake. Take a look at www.fpa.org.uk STIs MANY - like chlamydia, gonorrhoea and HIV - have no symptoms. You can't tell who has an infection and you may not know if you've caught one. Insist on condoms every time you have sex and if you've put yourself at risk get a checkup with your GP or local sexual health clinic.
