Q I'VE lost eight stone which I'm really pleased about, but I've got a lot of loose- hanging skin, especially around my tummy, which I can't get rid of. I walk miles every day and cycle but that hasn't helped. What can I do?

AWELL done on losing eight stone. The good news is that you're healthier, more mobile and slimmer. Unfortunately, saggy skin is not uncommon among people who have lost a large amount of weight. Skin loses elasticity with age so if you were overweight for a long time before slimming, the skin has literally been over-stretched. These skin folds can be very hard to shift and if they are causing you a great deal of concern it might be worthwhile asking your GP about obesity surgery. This can include abdominoplasty, which removes skin that large weight loss has left behind. It might also be worth doing regular resistance training to tone your body and firm your muscles. One of the best exercises for general toning is swimming, as it works all the muscles in the body.
