THE Scot who became the 99th British soldier to die in Iraq has been hailed as a martyr by the local people he fought to protect.

Public figures and ordinary Iraqis in the flashpoint town of Al Amarah have spoken of their sadness over his death. The outpouring is the first time that Iraqis have reacted in such a way over the death of a Coalition soldier.
