THE sight of Aung San Suu Kyi greeting Buddhist monks outside her house in Burma - surrounded by riot police - woke the world up to the crisis in the country.
But I can't help feeling like we could have done more over the years. That's why I was delighted Gordon Brown has pledged to stand up for them. We should tell British companies such as Rolls-Royce to get out of Burma - as we did in South Africa. If France continues to veto EU sanctions, we should not be afraid to go ahead on our own. The war in Iraq has been a disaster, one which we need to deal with, but the mistakes made there cannot be allowed to stop us from making common cause with people under oppression.See the full content of this document
